Sensory Training + Dinner with Cactus IFT
October 24 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm MST
Join us for a Happy Hour Open House at ProSense Consumer Research Center 20 minutes off I-10, very near downtown Tucson.
President and Owner, Dr. Rena Shifren, will lead us in sensory evaluations of two local Tucson products; Hamilton Distiller’s Whiskey Del Bac and Seven Cups Fine Chinese Teas loose-leaf Chinese teas. We will also be sampling Tucson’s own Popped Artisan Popcorns and Pretzels and Green Valley Pecan Company seasoned pecans. U of Arizona Food Science Club students will be serving us the products.
We will then have an authentic ‘Old Pueblo’ Mexican dinner at the World Famous El Charro. El Charro is the longest continuously running Mexican restaurant by the same family in the country. No wonder, the food is delicious, and the ambiance is expressly Tucson. El Charro current co-owner, Marcos Flores, will teach us about the roof dried Carne Seca that no doubt helped Tucson achieve its UNESCO designation as a City of Gastronomy (the first city in the United States to receive this).
At dinner, the U of A Food Science Club President, Julia Nieforth, will update our membership on the planned club activities for the year. Also, U of A Professor, Dr. Pat Sparks will tell us about how the Cactus IFT can partner with U of A Campus Pantry to support the food insecure students on the U of A campus. It is a bit of a drive to Tucson, but this will be a special learning, culinary and networking event that we hope you can make. El Charro is 10 minutes off the freeway and we promise to end by 8 pm at the latest!
