Yelp site putting food inspections online

July 31, 2018 By Arizona Food Service Network

The online, crowd-sourced review site Yelp is adding inspection reports from government health departments across the country to its restaurant reviews, the company announced recently.

Don’t look for reports from foodie-friendly, restaurant-dense Santa Fe, however. A contractor for Yelp obtains reports from government web pages, and New Mexico is one of five states that does not post that information online. Alaska, Vermont, Hawaii and Nebraska are the others, said Glynne Townsend, chief marketing officer for HDScores, a Phoenix company that gathers the inspection reports for Yelp.

“Typically, we go to the state or county and look for their website to see if the data is publicly available,” he said Friday. “Then we’ll scrape the data.”
